Sleeprobot V2
Internship Somnox
Re-designing parts of the Somnox sleeprobot, including the control panel, soft shell and overall experience.
November 2019 - February 2020
Sustainable materials, Production, User experience
The Somnox Sleeprobot helps people with insomnia fall asleep. I worked on the soft shell and the new control panel of the newest version of the sleeprobot. I tested & developed a new method for creating the “soft shell” around the robot, with a material that is more environmentally friendly than the previously used foam. The method was based on the mechanism of matresses: a more dense polyester foam combined with fluffy polyester cushion, with a polyester “tijk” fabric keeping everything together.
I researched and developed the control panel; testing different clicking experiences, possible new assembly methods, the electronics behind the panel and a way to display light in the control panel. This meant making many 3D models and continuously building and testing prototypes.
