A hidden roof element for monumental buildings with a Tarnoc turbine heatpump, allowing for movement of large volumes of air while respecting the old building.
Tarnoc has created an electrical heat pump that can easily replace the old heating system without any large construction work. This makes it a great solution for buildings with a monument status, as they can not be altered too much. However, the heat pump needs to have 2 large (25cm diameter each) roof elements for air in- and output. For this project, the goal was to create a roof element that is hidden away, suits the functional requirements of the turbine heat pump, while respecting the old building techniques and materials.
I developed the MODADO: a roof element that uses the old roof tiles to hide the functional parts of the roof element. This project required researching old building techniques, creating concepts, talking with home owners, building the prototype and managing stakeholder requirements.
